Hi all,

these are the first shots I've taken of some L. pallidus. They were taken with a Canon EOS350D mounted on a Muller Trinocular microscope. THese are very tiny spiders I have to say, a couple of mm. I used a low optic (x20 I think). The lighting is my biggest issue with this setup hence some of the color variations as I tried different settings. I am using the light built into the scope (top only in these shots). I tried some comparison shots with a Sigma macro lens and there is not a lot of difference in the two. Lots of experimenting going on to try and get good micro shots. I've had loads of help from Tom and lots of inspiration in these forums.

It is so hard getting the lighting right for photographs of spiders of this size. I'm trying to do some in strong daylight now as the additional lighting squews the colors and makes for a nasty image. I'll keep poosting my attempts and start to build up a nice catalog of Latro images along the way. I'll upload some more now.....brb

So, I'm getting some better shots now using natural light. I switched from the microscope to the Canon/Sigma setup. Using a small tripod and getting as close as the lens would let me with manual focus. These are `very` small Latrodectus slings, some as little as 2mm body. If they grow as fast as I'm told I should be getting some awesome shots in a month or so. I will do another shoot later tonight and I'll try using a ring flash and see what the results are like.
