My one and only widow made an eggsack recently. Had to be sometime between Monday and today. This is a wild caught widow taken from the far away reaches of my kitchen floor. My wife happened to see her slowly aking her way across the linoloeum and thoughtfully covered it with a clear tupperware so I could get it.

Anyway, what do I need to do with the sack? Leave it with mom or take it out and hatch it in a vial with tiny air holes. I know the babies are very small and don't want them escaping, but I would like to raise a few.

Thanks for the help.

I know little about spiders, but I saw a sign on the petstore that said "Please cover on 9/28 with saran wrap" maybe if you find out incubation time you can pinpoint when the sac will hatch and cover the tank in that fashion. :)

hello-

depending on temp, eggs will hatch out in a few weeks. the babies are very small, pin head size at most, hanging out with mom. My limited experience saw 3 hatches of sacs with no survivors (that I know of!). one hatch had at least 20 hatchlings.
good luck! If you don't want them, place sac in a freezer for a few days.

Put the sac in a smaller container with a plastic lid. Cut a 1" hole in the top of the lid and put a cotton ball in it. This will allow air in but the baby's will not be able to get out. When they hatch in about a month, thier will be too many to raise. So let them eat each other for about a month until the numbers thin out.
