I will be purchasing a California Kingsnake sometime in the near future, but I would like to get the housing for it squared away first. I was looking at the Vision Cages but can't actually seem to get in contact with the guy that sells them. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

John

Housing

I use these and am very happy with them. I have a 40 and 20 long models. Cornsnake in the 40 and toads in the 20.

Petco carries them here. Shop around. I got mine on sale at a local pet store. I believe the sale price was around $40 for the 20 and $60 for the 40 (not sure).

For a king, 20 long would be minimum size for adult.

Word of warning-

At the store we had a Cali king housed in a critter cage. It got out. It managed to get out of pretty much every tank we put it in until we stuck a lid on there that actually sits flush against the rims of the tank and snaps over them.

Lola was an escape artist- which I hear is typical for Cali Kings.

EDIT- Here is a link to the type of top we put on her tank to finally keep her in. They are made by Exo-Terra (Hagen)- and come in all your standard tank sizes.

I've heard about their Houdini antics, which is why I was looking for something with sliding glass (or plastic) doors. Preferably on the front. I was looking into the Vision Cages I saw online, but they have some bad reviews (there's a ledge above the door where a snake could hide) and I've been having a lot of difficulty getting in touch with the guy that sells them. I'd also heard of Precision Cages, might have to do some more research on them.

Cage

I would go with a nice glass aquarium with a good screen lid or one of the nice custom plastic cages. Vision cages are expensive. A glass aquarium can look very nice when it is well set up. Those are very hardy snakes.
