My newlyaqcuired King Baboon wont burrow. shes approximately 3 in diameter. I also havent seen her eat in the 10 days ive had her. shes currently hidding under a peice of corkbark over an indent which i made her... the substrate is a topsoil and coconut mix as per the tarantula keepers guide burrowers recipe/method (5inch deep). She comes out at night but just does a few laps ... she ignores the crickets she comes across. Any help would be appreciated!

Possibly she is getting ready for a molt. Also, since you just got her, give her a month to adjust.

If you want a KILLER burrower who is a garbage truck when eating, get an H. Gigas.

It took our 2" two weeks to really start making a burrow. It didn't eat for the first little bit...give it time. It's the worst eater we have actually (excluding our MF G. rosea)

Yes, make sure to get a nce large enclosure for the H. gigas with a small pond set up with fish. These guys love to dive. :)

i dont mind her not eating much, as notlooking forward to the tidying up part of carcases, hope she not a messy bugger and will take her own garbage out

It took a few days for my two inch-and-a-half King Baboons to make a burrow, and once they did they plugged up all entrances and exits. I figured they were in pre-molt so I didn't bug 'em. A little over a month later they've finally molted. One of them unplugged itself, ate a couple crickets, and then plugged itself back up again. Sounds like yours could be in pre-molt. Leave her undisturbed for a while and she'll settle in and eventually burrow. But enjoy her presence for now, 'cause once she's established a burrow, she'll only come out to hunt. They love their solitude, which is totally normal for them. :D

Just be thankful you can see it while you can . . .

I just put my 2.5"er from 2" substrate to 5" substrate, and havent seen it since(bout 2-3 weeks now).

Theres not even an entrance hole . . .
Just a plain, dry, cocofiber tank . . .

I even gave it a clear tube to use as a start to a burrow, but it filled it in with its excavations, and now it just runs around in the 3 chambers it made under the surface.

10 days is nothing. She can go for months without eating. When she feels comfortable, she will decide where to dig. Give it some weeks to settle in.

From my experience, King Baboons are not good feeders that can go on for months without eating (they don't grow very quickly), so I wouldn't be worried. Mine usually feeds at night because i've never seen it feed but I've had crickets go missing and the spider getting fatter. Anyone else have a shy feeder?

Yup, my baby never feeds in public. I tossed a cricket in there a few days ago and it disappeared so she obviously eats but barely. Thats just how they are though, pet holes but gorgeous ones!
