Alright here it gos I know for sure one of my e.murinus is a male. Its a brownish drabby color instead of the jet black like the females. I believe its only molted twice since I had it was around 3 inches hes when I got it what I am asking is how many molts before this species matures? The other one maybe a female it looks black but is considerabley smaller I will know for sure in a couple of molts. Would this be a good first time breeding project? I do not know if the male made a sperm web I have no clue what sperm webs look like.

Colors will be colors. It most sp colors do not matter when they are juveniles. IF you want to properly sex them you will have to get two ventral shots and stick them on here or wait for a molt to make a 100% confirmation.

When a male matures you WILL see the "punching bags" on the pedi and I thin kthis sp has the hooks but I am not sure...... The male wil be around 5" when it matures. One hardly sees a sperm web. It looks like a hammock against two structures where it can deposit the sperm in the the "punching bags"

I personally like E. Murinus but you will have to take care of all the slings separatly when the time comes...

E. murinus

It would be tough breeding that male with the female you mentioned. It may be awhile before she's breedable. If he's passed 3" then he's gonna mature any minute now. Probably within the next molt or two (considering in captivity with unlimited food and constant environmental conditions, they mature a lot quicker and usually smaller). Luckily they still live another year or so after maturity so keep him cool and keep your female very warm and extremely well fed so hopefully she'll grow like crazy and be breedable before the male's last few months. I've got an E. murinus female and she finally hit about 3.5" and the length of time between molts is pretty high. She should molt soon though and should be mature. Anyway back to yours, she may breed small but I think 4" is about when they are mature. Either way give it a try, there is definitely a demand for captive breed Skeletons. Just make sure you commit to the slings. Should you change your mind I'm positive there will be people out there wanting to buy/trade for/loan with your male (including me :D ) Good luck either way. All ephebopus rock!

I believe with the E. murinus the males are distinguishable by color; however, the male won't make a sperm web until it is fully mature. Nobody knows how many molts it takes before males mature, some might mature sooner than others and vice versa.

Heres a couple of pics of a MM E. murinus I had. Up until his ultimate molt he was the standard black color. E. murinus do have hooks but thay are kinda small.

color

I've got one immature male that is the same light brown of the mature male, but they can also be much darker. All the MM's I've seen have been the light brown color, and they do have hooks. They mature very small. Cool t's. Definitely hoping for some sacs next year!!!! Mating is going great so far here, the MM in jpet's pictures is a complete stud spider breeding machine!
