Hey there, guys!
I've never posted here before, so my apologies in advance if I commit any faux pas.
A little while ago, I rescued this katydid. Her back legs were ripped off (seemingly pretty cleanly, you can see one of the photos) and she was barely able to move from exhaustion and dehydration. I've took her in and she has now become a permanent part of the household. She's now much more active, and crawls all around when I take her out of her enclosure. Her name is Rochelle if you're wondering.
That being said, I'm still unsure what species of katydid she is. I found her in San Antonio, but I can't say I've ever seen katydids like her before here. I asked an anthropologist from a local university, and she said she couldn't nail down a specific species. Does anybody have any ideas? I'd love to find out so I can hone in on her ideal diet, since it's been largely trial and error.
She is about 1.5 inches long, excluding ovipositor and antennae. I had also originally tried to feed her small insects (small mealworms and baby crickets), and she didn't seem to respond to them. She's been munching on veggies and leaves occasionally, but really has seemed to prefer Fluker's Orange Cubes and Cricket Quencher above all. She also doesn't seem much interested in sugary jellies or fruits.
Let me know if any other pictures/videos would be helpful!
Thanks in advance!
