This is my D.diamantinensis "Mudcrab".
I only have him since last week sunday - so about 1 1/2 weeks.

He fell from about 1m height on saturday. He seemed fine after it. No "bleeding" or anything.
He is now eating a mealworm in a weird pose... and I dont know if I just see the pedicel or some abdominal separation. I am so worried for my little guy. 😢

Picture is attached.
I loe him and man I already hate myself for letting him escape and run off a ledge....

What you're seeing is just part of their anatomy. What I'd worry about is internal damage. It may look fine but there might be some internal damage. Can't do anything but wait.

It was after an escape and he was in a place I didn't think he would be sitting. I startled him, he ran and jumped (!) down.

I have learned from that escape - he escaped because I spooked him and had the door to his enclosure too far open.

It will not happen again. And I now know why this dpecies is considered pretty quick.

I was so worried about my little guy! And so relieved when he took food. And thrn so worried again. I know what part I am seeing but where so worried because it looked kinda strange in the picture.

Bonus pics of him eating

Do not worry your little one is fine 😊 and you learnt a valuable lesson without loosing your t .
The bit you see is what connects the t together yes it looks strange but is normal and nothing to worry about.

The sp you have chosen is known for being fast and skittish especially as younger specimens. Just remember slow n steady n knock before you open the viv, that way little one knows whats coming and if they are going to bolt its before the viv is open 😉 .

I wish you both the best of luck n you have any more questions you know where to find us 🙂.

Ps. Welcome to ab 😉.

If it’s eating that’s a great sign! Just be sure to not over feed it. You’ll be monitoring until it molts again successfully, but as long as it’s eating and drinking and looks that way, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Part of their body normal.
However internal injuries may have occurred. No one knows.

If you love him so much how’d you let him fall 1m, doesn’t sound like love to me.

Did you read that it was an accident?

How do people love their cats but they escape from home and get hit by a car / otherwise hurt outside?
By accident. Most of the time because of a stupid mistake of the owner.

Why do people who love their dogs let them get bitten in a dog park?
Because they didn't react quick enough (to stop the other dog or get theirs out of the way). Not because they don't love their dog.

If it was a hamster or anything that a vet could care for I would have been at a vet that evening.
Sad thing there is no such thing for tarantulas.

It's not like I picked him up and threw him to the ground!
It's not even like I was "Oh everybody sais no handling but they all must be wrong!" and handled him and something happened from there.

Yes, I made a stupid mistake of opening the door too far and underestimating how fast he would run.
Just like someone who's cat escaped through the door didn't think the cat would do that or at least not as quick.
It will NOT be happening again.

And now you can be the person who will say
they never made any mistake with any pet in their whole life and thinks whoever made such a mistake should not own any pet ever again. No matter if the cat escaped, the dog got bitten, the tarantula escaped and sadly took a fall, the guineapig broke a tooth or whatever else happened that could have resulted in an injured pet.

And I am the person to say:
Accidents can happen.
Accidents happen all the time.
That's why there is a word for it. That's why there is insurances for car accidents.
BUT if one made a mistake that led to the accident they should learn from it.
Look at what happened.
Think about why it happened.
Make sure you do not make the same mistake again.
If someone fails at this then they either don't care or are overestimating their ability of preventing an accident even with the same behaviour.

You can love an animal and still make a mistake that leads to an accident. You should - if you really love your pet - make sure it doesn't happen again.

I read only your first post, and asked an obvious question, nothing more.

I am just a stupid noob who underestimated this spiders speed.

The question wasn't just a question. It was a "You can't love your pet if that happened." - just formulated as a question instead.

I do love him.
I cried more than once about my stupidity and the possibility of him being hurt because of my mistake.
I just want him to be fine.

Really. Now "just a question" from me:

Are you always this bitter? (Really: are there too many people who make mistakes like that over and over and don't learn and that's why or are you just bitter at the world?)
