Even since I got my A. avicularia from the LPS, I've basically had nothing but bad luck with this guy! I know, people are probably sick of hearing me complain about this, but I don't know what to do, I've done everything I've been told I should. :( basically in the timeline of bad luck:

1. mom got the T for me because I was at work (not so bad)
2. two days later find out he's a mature male. (just great >>)
3. has so far completely refused food in my care
4. mold in the cage
5. cleaned it out and fashioned a new door so it can stand vertically
6. mites? springtails? some little white bugs that jump in his water bowl. (oh joy...><)
7. I noticed the glue holding the new door on isn't holding.
8. move him to a different tank so I can cean/fix his tank.
9. door shatters
10. bottom of the tank shatters

can I please get a break? :8o
I think I'm just going to order a tank from tarantulacages.com if stuff like this keeps happening, its undoubtly going to be worth it.

/edit/ good news is that my B. smithi is starting to be a little sluggish, darkening a bit, and refusing food. pre-molt time!!!

I'm concerned he won't ever start eating, I've heard that sometimes mature males stop eating completely once they mature. Which could mean an even shorter lifespan as it is. :( i thought about mating him, but my dad won't let me get a female, plus I'm still a kind of new, so I wouldn't know what I'm doing. {D

One thing that you must know....99.8% of pet stores have no idea what they are talking about. They wouldnt know the difference between an adult female T.blondi and an adult emale C.elegans.

Never trust what pet stores tell you, because they are most likely full of :5:

i've learned that now. I've always been leary of pet stores, but he was soooooo cute, and he'd been there for months, I couldn't pass him up. I don't regret him, I'm just a little dissapointed I won't have him longer.

get the little guy a 1gallon plastic jar from walmart, and use a drill to put holes in it. it won't break and they are wonderful for avics, and many smaller sized arboreals. only cost you about 3 bucks too.

I'd feel bad restricting him to something as small as a 1gallon, I had him in a vertical ten gallon. I would think a one gallon would be much to small. But i guess I like my Ts in large enclosures, I have my 5" B. smithi in a 20g (could be a 15, its an OLD tank, I don't remember)
