Humidity should be alright. Just make sure to mist it during shedding to help it with shedding. Make sure you have a heat source. Preferably a under tank heater on the opposite side of the water dish. You don't want to heat the water up. Temps should be 70 - 75° F on the cooler side, and 85 - 90° on the warmer. They are AMAZING escape artists so watch out for that. I think they were the only snake of mine to ever actually escape.

Also aspen is fine. Whatever you do not put your snake on pine shavings! It can, and most likely will kill your snake.

Anyways congrats on your purchase. I am a snake lover first and foremost. Post pics sometime.

I keep my kings on aspen and keep it dry. I provide a water bowl big enough to let it soak. I have yet to have any shedding problems with this method, they utilize the water bowl nicely.

I'd advise to tape the feeding opening on top of the KK, these snakes can be escape artists and you should have a secure enclosure.

Only tip I could think of..

don't use duct tape to make a cage snake-proof. Better not to try to leap through hoops. My brother made that error with some garter snakes.

Your Kingsnake shouldn't soak that much in a water bowl. That can be a hint that it has mites. Which can be a pain. Also it is probably big enough to put in a 10 gallon for a little while. Instead of the KK, but I don't think the KK will harm it. For how big it will get around. Uhm, I'm not quite sure how to say. But it won't be that big pretty much the size of most adult colubrids. It certainly isn't something like a Ball Python or Boa Constrictor.

I think it was directed it me. Mine only soak when in shed and on hot summer days. They don't spend any other time in there.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but keep all snakes away from your king snake. King snakes eat other snakes.

EDIT: Let me also say, put a rock or something ruff and heavy in there. Something for it to push against when it goes to shed. Stay away from ceder, it is toxic to reptiles.

Cedar wood pieces, shavings, sold in pet shops as animal bedding and as mulch....all very BAD for all bugs of any sort in the same room..... and not good for the snake either.

Congrats on your snake, the first of many I'm sure ;) They are quite addicting. Myself, I'm a python gal but I do love them all.

Honestly, we are the same person, haha.

I love love love pythons, we have all kinds of snakes though. Got our first one in April and now we have 7...slippery, slippery slope. The problem is that you can always fit one more tarantula, however, snakes are a different story. We've definitely reached our limit with snakes and lizards at the moment, until we get our own place. As soon as we do, I am getting a blood python.

haha the more I read your posts, I think you may be right about us being the same person lol

At the moment I only have 2 Ball's but it's purely a space issue right now. Im going to be putting in a rack so I can pick up a few more (so many morphs so little space ;) ) and yes I seem to have no trouble finding places I could put another T. Im also wanting to get a few geckos again, I used to have them and I love them. Having trouble deciding on crested or leopard though, so maybe one of each. Oh and I definately need another Beardie!
:wall: I think maybe I should just upgrade MY "enclosure" so I have room for more critters.

I'll second the escape warnings from earlier in the thread. Snakes are amazing escape artists! Very small snakes can definitely escape through the tiny holes in the top of a kritter keeper (the holes where the handles fit through) I prefer to use an aquarium with a wire top and metal clamps to keep the enclosure secure. I've never had an escape using this setup.

LOL @ "upgrade MY enclosure"...
I hear that!
hee hee :) I only moved here into this place in the summer and I LOVE it, but its hard as it's VERY open concept, so no "critter room" and I have 2 young kids and 2 crazy cats. The kids know not to touch the snakes, and my T's are up out of reach. The cats are a whole different story. They gave up on the T's after one cat had a near death experience when she knocked my avic to the floor (this cat is a very expensive purebred too, I got her free but still worth alot) Thankfully, the avic was fine, the cat got off easy. I modified the shelf they are on so that can't happen again.

Between kids toys and pets, I still have some of my stuff in boxes in my bedroom closet!! My poor ancient hamster even had to be moved to a questionable shelf so my spiders could have the good one lol

Edit* sorry for hi jacking your thread OP, sometimes I ramble. How is your new snake doing? Bought a 2nd one yet? ;)
