I went to a new pet store today and saw this avic labeled the typical pink toe tarantula. Well I looked at it pretty good and saw that it appeared purplish black all over. It's femurs are a purplish-navy blue, has the typical dark teal colored carapas, and it's abd. is mainly black with dark maroon setae. Haven't been able to sex it either but I'm leaning towards female. I'm thinking maybe a versi, but not too sure, I'm not usually an avic person. The last pic looks like a purplish avic but who knows.

GORGEOUS Avic you got yourself there!

I would never venture a guess as to "what" kind of avic it is, as there's too much confusion with these. I will dare to say, however, that it is not an A. versicolor. (the colors just aren't right)

Congrats on a beautiful addition. I'm sure you'll quickly fall head over heels with her. :)

ditto, that is one beautiful avic. since i have about a 0 record for guessing species' correctly, i'll only say that i doubt it's a versicolor, a purpurea or a minatrix.

she is a sweetie, when I was trying to put her in her new home she'd crawl out on my hand ever so timid. She is just really dark all over. I don't have too good of luck with pet store T's particularly avic's. The last one dropped a sac about a month after I got her home (I didn't want to be a daddy-again!!!). I'll see how this goes, surely it can't happen twice in a row!

{D The last one dropped a sac on you, yeah? {D I'm sorry I'm laughing...but then there are those who are trying their butts off to breed their Ts to no avail. <-- like me. :8o .....and you pick one up from a store and get a huge surprise. :D

************sorry....couldn't resist***********

I've got my avic from a pet shop as well, and she was full grown when they gave her to me, and she is also the sweetest thing. So graceful, so gentle, so pretty.

Looks like my Avicularia avicularia, or at least that was what it was sold to me as. Regardless, great T to have and enjoy.

I'm with Ronj on this one. The first 3 pictures gave me no clue, but the 4th one really "tipped the scales". I feel comfortable stating that this looks like Avicularia avicularia. They're great arboreals!

My vote is Avicularia avicularia as well. I have two right now they are sweet little babies (when they want to be; every once in a while, they'll jump for no reason). Both have subtle color variences; one has more red/deep purples where the other is more of a deep blue, no reds. Avic sp. is one of my very favorites!

I'm thinking it is probably an A. Avic too, but it then makes me wonder aobut my other Avic (the one with the sac). She's covered in reddish brown hairs, could just be in need of a molt. I'm horrible at differentiating among same sp. particularly this and Aphonopelma's

A. Avics do shift to a reddish brown when they are ready to molt. You do have a A. avic there, I think. But it is impossible to really tell. You will need to turn the molt to a someone that would be able to id it.

I've been able to look at her(?) and I'm thinking it is probably a dark A. Avic. The one holding the sac needed to molt but decided to drop a sac first, has me thinking it could be fertile. Oh well, I guess I'll have to have some babies.

Totally Avicularia avicularia. Congrats on the purchase. Definitely nice arboreal species that I suggest anyone in the hobby to have in their collection. They definitely can have different color variations amongst individuals inside a particular species. Have fun with your awesome looking A. avic.!
