First off, a male.

Side view.

About 57mm. Getting him to pose for this was a bit of a chore with a camera in the other hand.

This is the female(who up until this point was crawling on the camera as I was taking the males photos...LOL).

At about 70mm. A medium sized female in my small group.

Male again.

And both of them.
Eagerly awaiting first babies.

Hope you enjoyed the photos.

Very cool! I love hissers. They were my first inverts.. If only I would have known was going to be addicted for the rest of my life! Your female looks like she is going to give birth any day now. That is always awesome whhen you see all the little ones running around. In my case though the first little ones I had escaped and were running around the house. I was finding them for months after that! {D Good luck!

Thanks Empi, and great story! {D I sure hope I don't have too many escapees as they probably wouldn't survive long in the climate in my house.

This female looks plump to you? Do they swell lengthwise or widthwise? I have one female who is looking fat widthwise compared to the most. Others look a bit "stretched out" with the gaps between the abdomen plates a little wider...this is prolly one of them.

I have noticed that they're abdoman gets very round when they are prego. After they give birth it flatins out a bit like the males. It seems like the females always look stretched out in comparison to the males though prego or not.

Thanks for the info Empi! Do you mean round when looked at from above or from the side?(assuming you mean from the side).

Here is a feeding photo for ya.

From the side.. If you look at them from the back they look very round.

Well...sure enough. It was bound to happen.

I'm betting the question will soon be what to do with them all! I think only one female has given birth to approx 20 little babies.

This happened to me, I have almost 60 babies because two females I bought both gave birth. You need to keep the babies in a container with netting or pantyhose or something similar over the top. This stops the babies crawling out through air holes in the lid. This happened to me, and waking up one morning with baby hissers all over your desk is not good! My plans for mine is sell them when they reach adulthood.

I've done a count and it is indeed around 20 roaches. They sure are cute :)

It seems that most people who would like hissers by now have some already, but we'll see. Otherwise any extra babies will just become food for other critters.

Btw, how many youngs should I allow to grow up to keep this colony sustainable? Currently 9 females and 5 males.

Also, has anyone noticed some hissers tend to be more round when looked at from above then others(specifically a few females)?

I'll take photos of one to compare soon.

Thanks Anthony! I had the orange ones cherry picked for me so that is part of the reason. Curious to what color the offspring will turn out to be.

Also another question. Does anyone have any tricks for removing the adults if they are head down in the egg crates? I did a cleaning yesterday and it would be great if their was a way to do this.
