Jumping spider prices

This past weekend I went to a pet store around 3 hours away which was close to my vacationing spot. The store was selling wild caught Phidippus regius for $50 each. I was shocked seeing the price, since in the past, expos and people alike sell them for $15-$20.

I have been seeing a ton of jumping spider videos on my Insta feed, with hundreds of thousands of views. That's the only reason I can see anyone selling a common species for so much dough. Have jumpers really gotten so popular that a very common species is going for this amount?

Jumpin spider prices are fr insane right now, there are a few sites you can find by poking around that are selling WC regius for $70+. Most expensive I've seen is WC regals being sold for 95$ because they were a particular color, even though colors are not proven out in jumpers and you wouldn't be able to guarantee that anyway because who know what male she was paired with in the wild. People are for sure not realistic at all about it, no way I'm paying that much for an adult WC animal that probably has just over a year left in her. I don't care if it's orange or white. I think also the general marketing of jumping spiders has gotten pretty far out of control, at the most recent expo I went to I saw someone selling plastic balls tied to a string with decor items inside, the idea being that you could put the jumper in the ball and carry it around with you on a necklace. I also think the amount of regals we're wild catching should be......looked into........I know they are unlikely to be as affected by it because of how many babies they reproduce, but I do think from what I seen it's likely hundreds are being WC a month. Surely might have some kind of impact. People don't have a constant stock of a variety of adults by CB alone usually, and from the last expo I went to it seems even people that aren't really spider people are selling them. A lot more booths had a random selection of adult regals for varying prices, even if they were the only inverts on the table. Worth some looking into for sure.

Yeesh I would not buy WC for that much. Especially not for the most common jumper species in the hobby.
Canada is always going to be different but most of the sites here have them for $30 (around 21$ usd) for a CB sling.

That's actually wild l don't like that at all. Sounds like a tragedy waiting to happen.

As far as I'm aware, Phidippus aren't that hard to breed so people shouldn't be yoinking them from nature. I wonder if expos should be vetting vendors a bit more if it seems like they have too many wild caught specimens....

If Consumers / Suckers are willing to pay outrageous prices. 'Unscrupulous Dealers' will take advantage.

I could never justify paying that much for a WC jumper!
