I just got my first spider yesterday so this could be a classic case of not knowing what’s going on or beginner panic. I got a widow jumping spider yesterday, the first 20 minutes they was really active, cleaning and exploring and having a good time. The past 24 hours they’ve just stayed on top of a little cotton cocoon and not moved once. They’re a sub-adult, I’ve misted for water they don’t care. Am I worrying too much? The first few times I walked past they’d look up at me or clean themselves but they just seem to be staring blankly into nothing…not sure what to do

They’ve just not moved from here at all! I’ve ordered a heat mat I’m worried it’s too cold for them as my house is only 18 right now, just not sure what to do really.

Sometimes they just rest. They become very inactive right before a molt and some will spin a cocoon of silk and hide in it for weeks before and after a molt.

You could heat it up to 23-24°C. They are more active at warmer temperatures. This type of spider sunbathes in the wild to heat up for hunting.

Provide water and don't worry.
