I just caught a large jumper and need to know how to care for her.It appers to be an adult female, 3/4" long, pure black with two red stripes on the abdomen. Right now she is in a 4" deli cup with some dirt and twigs in it but I would like a better set up. Any help with ID would be great, I live in North Idaho. Thanks for any help:)

an arboreal enclosure with plenty of flat surfaces, a very fine mist in the mornings and im not sure of the size so anything you think he/she can tackle as food not a proper care sheet or anything but i guess try keep the conditions similar to where you caught it

Thanks. I fixed the enclosure up with some small hen & chick plants and little twigs to climb on. Does this girl need a hid?
I've been searching throught pictures and I think she is a Phidippus johnsoni, I will do more research.
She is eating a beetle right now, she had it when I caught her and isn't going to give it up:)

Well out doors they dont really need a hole to snuggle in , ive seen them scrunched in balls under leaves, under twigs just something they feel safe in, but then again i am on a Diff continent so maybe get the screw cap lid off a soda bottle or somethingand half bury it like you would do with a Flower pot for a T. when shes done with the beetle i should imagine that they have quite a high metabolism and she'll be looking for more food.
Good luck with her

We kept Phidipus spiders for a month or so in a 4x4x5 display cube from Michael's with 1" eco-earth and a piece of plastic plant. They built a web hide near the top and ate small crickets. They also molted by building a thick web hide and going dormant for about a week. Also misted occasionally.

She settled right in, ate her beetle and then took a cricket. I'll only keep her for awhile.
