This will be my 1st post in a while and alas its a sad time for me. I have a baby who is 7 months now and has started to crawl. Good thing right? Unfortunatley along with the crawling comes the grabbing of everything. I had to get rid of most of my T's for fear of my little boy Knocking over, killing or getting bitten.
Im still really chocked up about it. I had to get rid of the following T's
P.irminia (pair) adults
1 juvi Pulchra (fem)
1 OBT (fem)
1 tiger rump (fem)
1 H.maculata (fem)
1 B. Smithi (fem)
1 H.lividium (Devil)
2 P.metallica (pair)
1 blue fang (male)
I feel as if I've lost my limbs. I did keep a few of them because I just couldn't. I do however have 1 more to get rid of if anyone is in NYC and is interested. Im letting go of my imature male indian violet. So just give me a PM or something. I don't wish this on anyone.
At least I don't have to worry about my baby boy being hurt. Ugh the humanity.

That really does suck. Sorry you had to do that..
I was lucky enough I could put my Ts in a room and keep them away from my 3 kids as they grew. I dont know if I could have said goodbye to my 8 legged babies...

When my kids were little I put my tarantula cages on a SHELF. It was the perfect solution. Now I have a fifteen year old kid and three fifteen year old tarantulas.

I understand your concern for your kid, but i think putting them out of reach would be a good solution to keep them, or if you keep themnear the ground get a large aquarium mayby sliding front to put them in so then you can just lock the door so only you could get in. I also have no kids so i probably wouldnt be as concerned as you.

My wife made me do the same thing with my collection 20 years ago. (Of course, I had plastic shoeboxes in all the closets and stacked in the living room of our apartment.) Now my kids are older and I have 50 or so T's. I doubt your interest to keep Ts will change and you can always start over later. Looking back, I wish I has just moved into docile species for awhile instead of getting rid of everything. Good luck with the tough decisions.

discipline on the part of the parents and the child will prevent this.
keep them where the kids can not get to them. it should not be too hard, i mean you keep bleach and draino out of their reach do you not?
my children were taught to not touch my firearms nor my spiders.
and when they were too young to understand the fire arms and tarantulas were not in their reach.
pretty simple. AND bleach is far more dangerous to your kids than most Ts are lol

The T's that i did keep are on shelves and in the closets. Thing is that i live in an apt and not a home. Its a little harder to keep so many T's. I also have a truck load of Leopard geckos too. The misus likes those. She never really liked my T babies. I have come to grips with the situation. The hobbie will still be here for me when the time comes so i can always repurchase some more kids.
