Hello all! I recently acquired a wild caught Rollie Pollie culture from my biology teacher, and have done my best to ensure they stay happy and healthy. I’ve noticed a large amount of dead bodies, and there not nearly being as many isopods as when I first received this culture. I have springtails arriving in a few days in case it’s just a mold or fungal problem, but I’m not convinced. I clean out all the corpses as soon as I see some, which on average is 1-2 every other day, and I know that isn’t normal.
I’ve tried different methods misting to see if it’s a humidity problem. Misting every 2-3 days, misting 1-2 times a week, and 50/50 misting but it doesn’t seem to make a huge difference. I could see it being a ventilation problem, as I’m not convinced my teacher added enough holes/big enough ones for all the critters.
I do see babies often, which means some are happy enough to reproduce despite their dying off. I’d like to find out what’s wrong so they can finally thrive. Any help is much appreciated!
(Side note: I do keep them with 2 dark bodied amber snails and one brown garden snail. The brown garden snail is brand new, but I got the Ambers almost immediately after the culture. All are wild caught, so I could see that becoming a problem)
