Yes, it is a Varanus acanthuras (Ackie monitor), it has the spiny tail they are famous for. It appears to have a piece of shed skin stuck to its back. What you can do is put it in a small container with wet paper towels for a few hours and let him soak, but you must must must keep it warm, or your Ackie could get sick (respiratory infection, etc.)g

Have you checked out those links I gave you in your other thread?

Congratulations on getting it for that cheap, most go for $200+ at that size.

yeah thats a ridge tailed monitor (Varanus acanthuras) or you can call them an ackie. What you should do is, go to your kitchen sink fill it about an inch and a half with luke warm water, splash the water on his shedding skin and rub it a bit and it should come of, otherwise you can peel it of if it is already of just sitting there which is most likely the case.
Oh and nice monitor;)

thats good, i wuish they were $40 in aus, m getting some for around 200 ea at thge end of the year:eek: . Bit of adive give them deep sand to burrow in and an ackie stack. An ackie stack is when you get bit of wood and drill them toughter so the gap between each one is a bit bigger than the lizard itself, they like to hide in them.

Red Ackie

pimpin_posey- Do they have any left? I would pay for you to buy and ship one to me, plus I'll give you some extra cash for your troubles.
Thanx in advance,
Josh

As no one exept for the poster above offered their opinion on the question, "Is this a RED Ackie," yes, I believe it is. It's hard to tell from those pictures, but I believe you posted clearer versions of the pictures on another board as well, and it did look red to me.
