man ya know I wish I could market these things cause I am just loaded with them... I just found a very nice mixed sex colony of these on top of the ones I have.. some all black total False Widow look.. others have the cream colored markings with the row of hearts down the centre and little patches around the sides.. maybe I could just market them as "somewhat safer widow like spiders" heh heh what do you think?:D

edit* see I am crawling with these and I cant find a REAL widow to save my life.. pssht!

You and thousands of other households are loaded with them ;) doubt you could sell much, i kept them for a while and found them far less entertaining than real widows. seemed to eat less too.

Why cant you find widows? probably too cold now that its october but anytime in summer you should be able to find plenty. check "dry" beaches that have lots of drift wood, or rocky dry mountains. the oak/arbutus/doug fir type areas seem to be loaded. BC has some nice solid black widow colouration as well.

I am not sure what exactly the weather is liek there right now but if there is no frost yet and at least not lots of rain there is a slight chance you can still find them now. I have found them in october in victoria.
