i just bought a male Aphonopelma Chalcodes (if that matters,) and i assembled this tank for him,
IMG_6971.jpeg
he is around 3 inches(7cm) in length from what i can tell.
the tank itself is roughly 15/16 inches (38cm) and has around 3-4inch deep substrate (7-10cm). he also has a waterbowl that is around 5' (12cm (i think)) and a hide
im still kinda new to the hobby so im unsure if this is good or not,

A Chalcodes should have dry sub and more of it. It also needs ventilation, I can’t see how much ventilation there is there

Check out the beginners guide:

Is that your tarantula that is climbed up in the right top corner? 😱

I think you will prefer to have substrate almost all the way up for its safety.

A good way to tell if substrate is high enough: if tarantula gets on its back legs and can touch ceiling with front legs. Youre good to go. It could be a bit less, but the bigger they are, a fall could injure them badly.

Biggest rule is no more than 1.5x the size of your spider from the substrate. :)) Also, is that a hide?

Mine is only about an inch but here’s an example of what my enclosure looks like.

it has two hides made of cork bark; one is bigger than the other as I was hoping it burrowed at the end of the enclosure, personally just so I can see it better. The substrate is dry, the moss and leaf litter isn’t necessary. I just added it for more texture. I’d look up the tarantula collective as he has a in-depth care guide to these babies~ he even has videos on YouTube of how to set up their husbandry. Good luck~

I use this guideline so they aren’t risking climbing and dying from a fall. 1-1.5x dls from top of substrate to top of cage .

big fall risk you need significantly deeper soil.
