Friend's son got bit and he sent me this pic:

He's thinking it's a brown recluse, but his son hasn't shown any signs of anything and it's been 8 hours...:?

It is a recluse. Not all recluse bites create the nasty wounds they're associated with. Most actually have no reaction at all. Believe it or not, most bites are dry bites.

Ditto to the Brown Recluse. Our old house used to be infested with the nasty things.

If it was indeed a dry bite, consider the kid lucky. My aunt got bit in the cleavage and had a huge chunk of flesh necrify.

Even now in a new home that's proven itself free of the vermin I still shake out clothes that have fallen to the floor and thump shoes to make sure before putting anything on.

Your friend's son is a lucky boy. Glad he's ok. How exactly do they know he was bitten if there were no signs?
L. reclusa are encountered far more often then most folks realize where they are common. It's funny too because here, where they are not common, every spider people see is a "brown recluse"...no matter how hard you try to prove it's not so. lol
