is $50 for a 6" unsexed c. guangxiensis a good price?

my LPS has one for $70 but the owner is having trouble selling. I asked if I could have it for $50 and he said sure. He is kind of afraid of this spider so he wont transfer it so incidentally $50 includes a terrarium (though i would move to something bigger, but at least I get a free 5 gallon with screen lid this way).

I am fascinated by this T, but just want to make sure I'm getting a good price.

that size, you should be able to look at the spider and tell if its male or female.

it's quite webbed in there so i can't tell from a cursory glance, but yeah I could probably take a better look. The reason the owner of the store doesn't know is because he really isn't that interested in spiders. he takes good care of them as he does with all his animals, but he is more of a reptile person. It looked female to me, but can't be sure. assuming it is female is that a good price? male?

no, you'd have to have a pic of it's underside. Sorry. It's a beautiful spider though. I can tell you that. :D

haha yeah, that's what i was thinking. the owner of the store, as i said, is a bit nervous with this one and wont lift him/her up to check. I'm leaning towards buying regardless of gender.

Also he has it labeled as "Chinese Fawn" so i'm thinking it is a c. guangxiensis, but in my opinion it looks more like a c. huahini. The owner recently purchased the store and said this spider has been there since he owned it so he doesn't know the scientific name.

Well that is a tough call on the one hand Im not sure I believe you have a C. guangxiensis there and if you did on the other hand $50 would not be a bad price for a 6" female. Im guessing it would be a female because from what I have seen most males from the genus molt in MM around 3-4" and are much smaller then the females in general. Also I dont know your location but I this used to be one of the more rare Ts from the genus to find but if you are near Mississippi I know Swifty had some turn out recently but they wouldnt be that size yet. So im guessing you have a C. huahini with out a better pic next to a ruler or dollar bill or something.

yeah, i live in michigan and unfortunately because the spider came with the store when the new owner bought he doesn't know anything about the history of it. he just has it labeled as a chinese fawn because the old owner did. Do you think $50 would still be a good price for a C. huahini?

Well you wouldnt have to pay for shipping and you would get a free cage and you would be giving it a better home with someone who is not afraid to open the lid. Im not into them and I think I saw one around that size for $40 doing a quick search but that $40 didnt include shipping. If it does end up being a C. guangxiensis then Id say you got a good deal.

thanks
any idea on positive ID between C. huahini and C. guangxiensis?
I can't say much on the difference between the two, but I have pics of a guaranteed C.guangxiensis female that is in the 6.5-7" range that you can compare with the T in the LPS.

Also, I let the water dish dry out for today so I could remove the webbing/dirt more easily.

Hope the pics aren't too bad for you and that they help.:D

This is just a guess, but I would say guangxiensis. Here's why. Yours looks identical to mine and I bought mine in a store in China that only really carries wild caught Chinese species. There are three species of Chilobrachys in China and as far as I know only the guanxiensis is in the pet trade. So let's call it an educated guess.

Just get him anyways. If you get a tank too thats a good deal. Hope its female, but if its male just send it off on a 50}50 and you keep the 5 g any ways

For comparison, krazy8sinvertebrates has 5-6 inch females C. "guanxensis" for $35.00. They've had them for a while too.
