Those are some cool pics, I'll give you that.

However, please tell me you realize that this really just isn't a good idea. Not really for you (no offense, but if you do this, it's your fault if you get bit), but for the T. She could very easily fall off your face and rupture her abdomen!

Awesome pics, but I think I would stick with photoshop for those effects :)

Prizz: i'm sorry, im a little confused by your meaning, are you saying that i am too (sic)? if so, let me asure you that i am the anti-cancer, and the only answer. :D

T saftey: i actually had my hands just out of frame waiting to catch her should she fall. besides, i didnt put hr there, she chose to perch there.

My saftey: ehh. a little pain builds character. {D

Ignoring the safety to your T, which as others have pointed out is at risk, there are other factors to consider. Urticating hairs in the eyes can be much more than a "little pain". That is one area YOU DO NOT want to get urticating hairs. That can turn into a serious medical problem, with severe cases resulting in eye surgery to remove the hairs. Placing your tarantula on your face is not recommended at all. Not to mention the slight risk you will be bitten in the eye.

My Hariet

2 friends of mine had a tarantula collection including about 60 random spiders. Their 1st favorite was their oldest, and longest in possesion, a chilean rose named Hariet, They told me they would never sell such a sentimental animal, at any price. Well, they lost interest in the hobby, and in a sweater box, in a corner of my room, Hariet sits... along with 4 other Rose Hairs.

you obviously dont pay much attention.
I already stated that #1: my hands were waiting just off screen in case of a fall, which is unlikely as i was not standing up in the pics, and #2: this was not a staged event!! the T crawled up there, and i asked a friend to snap a few shots before i took it off.

with the exception of Prizz, Ripley, and Shadow, i think you are all being very inconsiderate and rude. If this is the way you respond to people in this neck of the boards, then i doubt i will post again. i just thought someone might see the humor in this akward situation caught on film.

I am sorry to see that you feel it is rude of someone to point out the very serious risk of getting urticating hairs in your eyes. Whether staged or not, the risk factor is the same.

Here is a quote from "The Tarantula Keepers Guide" by Schultz and Schultz:

"Absolutely the worst consequences are obtained if the bristles make contact with a person's eyes. The resulting lesion causes servere damage to the cornea and other eye parts, and requires immediate attention from an opthalmologist (Chang et al, 1991; Hered et al. 1988). First-aid treatment is to restrain the patient to prevent rubbing the eye, then irrigating the eye with copious amounts of water. The patient should be taken immediately to an emergency clinic, then referred to an opthalmologist.

"Ordinarily the patient recovers completely after several months of treatment. Although there is seldom apparent, permanent damage to the eye, the condition is exceedingly painful, and there is the ever-present threat of permanent eye damage or infection. The people afflicted with this condition lose time from work or school and suffer much worry and stress not knowing if they will ever have full use of the eye again. Long-term treatment is also very expensive.

"Prevention is by far the best course to take and is adsurdly simple and easy. Don't touch your eyes or face after handling a tarantula, or any of the appointments in its cage, until you have washed your hands."

My apologies for being so rude.

Woah woah, there.
I think some of you REALLY need to back off a bit.
It's someone's choice, if they want to let their tarantula crawl on their face. As he said, it wasn't a staged thing, the spider just crawled up there, so he got pics. There might be debate about letting it get to his face in the first plce, but still. If someone wants to let their tarantula crawl on their face, it's their own damn responsibility. I don't see *any* reason to go on about how "dangerous" it is. State the dangers once, and get off it, if they know the risks and are still willing to do it, well, nothing's going to stop them, and it's just flat-out rude to start some huge debate over it... if you absolutely must, please, take it to private messages or something, at least.

 im pretty sure he was kidding when he said he didnt mind the hairs getting into his eyes. you guys are taking this way to seriously. as i do realize the potential danger to the tarantula, he did not put it there,so leave him alone and stop acting like hes meaning to do harm to his precious t. lighten up guys.

Indeed I think this thread has gotten way off topic and yes, I'm partly to blame. I have however found a few interesting things regarding this board. It is easily found through the major search engines and anyone who wants to can find all the spider pictures they want from this site. Keeping this in mind, how many people do you want to have seeing and/or making comments regarding the pictures that were posted here to start with? From all the embarrasing photos/videos posted on joke sites lately is this such a good idea if you are self conscious about appearances? I do appologize if this has caused undue duress. I would like to ask one thing in the future: Can we just stick to T's and other arachnids here with the pics and not people's noses and mouth parts? I for one will endeavour to not make disparaging comments in the future if my eyes are not assaulted my things I don't find relevant to this site's theme and topics. Here's to a less troubled future on arachnoboards. Thank you.
