So what insects are availible in the US?

I'm not looking for illegals, just curious to know what's OK to be legally traded other than roaches.

There are 88,600 species of insects in North America north of the US-Mexico border. Im sure you could find some cool beetles or ichneumons or something.

the only thing the you truely need a USDA APHIS PPQ permit for is foreign herbivorous insects -- stuff like phasmids, beetles, et cetera.

for foreign insectivores like mantids, reduviids, et cetera the USDA would like you to have a courtesy permit. (Read: not manditory or enforcable) This courtesy permit is a PITA to get and can take 6+ months from application to issuance. And all the while it is so government can keep track of everything. That way if/when the laws change they will know where critters are to be found.

Wayne Wehling is the man to talk to at the USDA if you are unsure about anything.

This is all stuff I've read before.

However, I was more interested in non cockroach, non platymeris, non mantis and non phasmid INSECTS that people had in their collection.

I'm well aware of all the USDA permits and such.

Edit:

I probably should have written that first post better
