My king baboon female that i ordered arrive on tues perfectly on time :) She is gorgeous too! After unpacking her and getting her into her new home i noticed something very wrong.. Her leg is BROKEN! i confirmed that she was not shipped like this so no doubt an injury during the shipping. Its only the last "knuckle" part of her leg if you will. Its cocked to a 90 degree angle the wrong way and has a bloodclot looking buildup where the break is :( I know this will grow back when she molts, least i hope it will but what im wondering is it ok to leave it broken like that. Im worried about infection or molting problems by having a crooked leg.. Anyways here are some pics, im going to make them large file size as to see better, any advice on what i should do with the leg would be REALLY appreciated. poor lil girl :(

the blood clot is where she puts her weight when she walks and the clot itself has gotten larger than what is shown in the last picture so it leads me to believe that its still bleeding.. :(

Yeah, I'd pull the leg too. I could start bleeding again on its own. T's just don't have enough blood to be able to lose any.

Pulling a leg is so much easier than it sounds. Remember there are no internal structures like our bones to worry about. Good luck and keep us posted.

oh noes

wow i should pull the whole leg and not just clip it where the injury is? i know you can seal tarantula injuries with super glue couldnt i do that other than just amputate the whole leg? id rather not disfigure this new t i just bought lol.

Try putting a drop of liquid skin or new skin on the joint, make sure her water dish is full and keep an eye on the leg, good luck...

My MM A. hentzi managed to mangle his leg pretty good just like this a few weeks ago. Put some liquid band aid on it asap to make sure any bleeding stops. It works very well. You can pull the leg now or just leave it. Chances are your T will drop this leg in the coming days/weeks on its own. Good luck.

I posted thread here about my c.crawshayi here.I tried super glue, newskin, flour, and everything else that I or anyone else suggested ,but nothing stopped the bleeding for very long. after pulling the leg she acted lots less stressed and could move and burrow much better. It was the best thing I could do, She is now a much happier & aggressive bug. Dont look ugly either!

does super glue as well as liquid skin? And can anyone confirm clipping the leg at the injury point then using liquid skin as a viable soltution as to salvage some of her leg.

post op

update, just got off work and i had some time with my deformed and crippled king baboon:eek: i got the wound all cleaned up real nice then applied some liquid skin onto the cut and the bleeding has stopped /cheer. I moved her into a small post op container for the night just to make sure the liquid skin has a good time to do its thing. Here she is in her hospital bed for the night, wish her luck.

anymore advice would be great and thanks for the advice so far, ill keep everyone posted :)

Im wishing you the best of luck. Nothing I did to mine worked. She looked really bad and weak when I finally pulled her leg. I know if I had let her go injured any longer she would have died. GOOD LUCK

morning after

so when i woke up this morning she had turned her water dish over lol so the paper towel was all wet and she was layin semi on her side/back almost in a pre molt posisiton. Wonder if that was because of the high humidity in there bc of the toppled water cap. If she is about to molt im kinda worried since im stuck here at work all day and not able to help her if she gets stuck or anything. I moved her back into her enclosure this morning so hopefully her being back in that tank will help her should she decide its time to molt. /pray lol

Wow man, best of luck to you. I am pretty attached to all of mine, and that would kill me. Just freaking kill me.

Best of luck to you and the T. Sorry this happened to such a beautiful T.

UPDATE on my injured king

She is doing great! :) she has eaten 2 crickets and a roach this week and has webbed up her burrow pretty well, i think those are great signs she is on her way to a good recovery from her broken leg :) also when i woke up this morning i found her in her water dish drinking. :D

I have dealt with this situation a few times now over the years. IME when a leg segment or part of a leg is damaged like that, the best thing to do is completely remove it. Often times they do this themselves, but then other times you need to get in there and do it for them. If you leave it be and she molts the leg will come out looking deformed and worse than before. But by pulling it completely in 2-3 molts it will be completely repaired and look as good as new. Just my 2 cents...
