Howdy, I Stirmi got done with a molt around a week ago and took it out, only to notice a indentation in the carapace. Any ideas if its natural or something to worry about? Wasn't there before the molt, and if had it since it was a month old sling. Any advice or knowledge is appreciated.

The indentation is normal anatomy. It's called a central apodeme and serves as the muscular attachment point of the sucking stomach. The next time it molts, look at the other side of that indentation and you will see a structure there. All spiders have it, but it is more noticeable on the tarantulas and their closest relatives.

Might not want to put that Theraphosa near your face their hairs are legendary for a reason 😉

Thanks! But I have nerve damage all over my body. She crawls around everywhere, and even hangs out with me while I watch movies. I got used to the hairs pretty quick :)))

Fair enough you may have nerve damage but that won't stop your skin blistering once little one kicks at you 😆. And just as a bit of info t hairs don't work like that the human body doesn't become immune it slowly reacts worse n worse till the allergy is that bad can't keep no more nw t's . I have seen it happen several times on ab infact last week someone was getting rid of their t's because of the hair reaction getting unbearable.... but you do you 😊 gl with your little one.

Np if you Google it you can see for yourself, Theraphosa have the worst urticating hairs n they have alot of them. I keep blondi n when she moults I call her mat the carpet of doom because it is lol tongs n a mask to get it out. I have 110 t's n non of them make mats like that only Theraphosa.

I actually get a reaction to Grammostola of all things 🙄, get blisters that itch for days if I touch their vivs. Never did at first but I do now, still keep em though just have to wear gloves n cover my skin lmao. Worth it though 😆

Congrats on keeping T. stirmi.
Hopeful for a Big Beautiful Tarantula.
Aside from Urticating Setae,
Handling may also put these Creatures Lives at Risk of a Jump or Fall.
Which could result in serious Injury or Death to your Pet.
Best Wishes,
Enjoy

That’s normal and part of their body. All Ts have that

Your eyes are not immune to UrS. Especially with your T you will have more than a bad day if any get in your eye/s.

The highest risk of UrS is in fact your eyes and second would be respiratory.

Do more research to understand the danger/risk vs reward.
