OK.. Ive owned them for years.. NEVER had this happen.

My iguana (PoGo) never noticed the dog food before.. but my new dog is on this rx hypoallergenic diet.. and i cant keep the iguana out of it. He even tries to eat out of the bowl at the same time as the dog!

No matter where I put the bowl.. he goes after it.. & If theres none in the bowl he will scratch at the pantry door where the food is stored.

How do i stop the behavior?

Short of removing the food & bowl from the area or removing the iguana, I don't think you will stop it. They are incredibly stubborn when it comes to stuff they shouldn't be getting into. I'd probably plop a plate of his salad down in front of the door if he started scratching at it to let him know thats all he's going to get. :)

tried moving the bowl, when the food isnt available he tears up the pantry door.

Im going to post pictures LOL its too funny seeing him trying to share the bowl with my dog.

Is there anything I can ad to his diet to maybe keep him interested in his own food instead of the dogs?

Right now I feed him a mix of romaine lettuce, collard greens, mustard greens, & He eats a whole banana & half of a small red apple every day.. not to mention various plants when he wanders into the living room {D

My iguana used to do the same thing, he would prefer my cat food to his own food, but my vet once told me that if he is craving a certain food there must be a certain vitimin or mineral in that brand that he needs. As long as he still eats his food, my vet said it should be fine, just keep an eye on his weight, and he warned me that some dog food is made with a lot of fillers so they will poop more. My iggy was litter box trained, im curious if yours is?

i trained him to go in the spare bathroom, when we hear him in there we turn the water on in the tub and he goes.

Hes blind in one eye so he could never find the litter box.. plus being as big as he is.. i think it would be a nightmare!!

he used the box when he was smaller though until he had surgery on his foot, then I started using the tub because it was easier to keep his wound poop free.

Once in a while he'll go in the kitchen when hes one one of his begging for food sprees, but the tub really works.

Its a lot easier to wrinse out the tub then clean up all the spilled litter!!

how big is your iggy? & does he trash the litter box as much as mine did?

you must completely separate your animals during dog feeding time - do not let your Iguana watch the dog eating.
