I think I have the most vain iguana in the world.
He poses for photos. (He's about two feet now and ninja style with that tail.)

Maybe it's just the funky angle, but he looks kinda thin, don't he? :?

Well I mean in all honesty...

My iguana is a pig. He can be a portly little guy but when he takes a crap, you can see his bones. In reality, there's not that much to an iguana. Not a ton of muscle mass as babies. *shrug*

Plus that photo is massively deceiving because everything is drawn inwards. My animals eat better than I do.

Here's another baby picture:
This is before he found out his tail could be used as a samurai weapon.

Have you ever been to the Iguana Den site? They have awesome information about iguanas.

http://www.iguanaden.org/

I'm a little concerned about the substrate you're using. Wod shavings can be injested and cause major problems? Also how old is your iggy? If he is over 18 months old the reason for his being difficult may be related to breeding season issues. It's important to try to figure out how to handle him anyway, though I know it can be tricky. I have a four year old male myself so I know it can be tough, especially since he is a pretty big guy.

How old is your guy?

He's about two.

I've never used anything but the bedding blend and it seems to work fine.
My iguana eats out of a dish and his water bowl and is rarely on the ground, so I'm not too worried. I also have a friend who raises iguanas and uses the same substrate.

I think the issue is, you can't really see the substrate, but very little of it is bark chips.

And he's always just been mean.

I think it's due to the fact that I rescued him from a petshop in a teensy cage he had to share, and the employees were afraid to hold him, so I had to catch him myself.

He gets taken out and given head massages on his 'third eye' to calm his down. Then he's pretty docile.

It was just a thought. I was taught not to use any type of small substrate. I used to use just newspaper, now I don't use anything. My green free roams in the bathroom and my cyclura lives on a bare plastic floor because I find this easiest to disinfect.

My green had gotten very aggressive this breeding season I think because he had outgrown his enclosure and because he was in the same room with the female cyclura. Once we moved him into the bathroom he calmed down considerably because he no longer felt cornered.

What is your vet's opinion on his aggressive nature?
