If you ever wondered why the USDA and APHIS are on our case.

Here's why, read this post and see if you can find what might make an ecologist spin in their grave. Talk about potential for an invasive species! Even if this comment wasn't serious, it gives the hobby a bad persona! It implies that people who keep inverts strongly consider dumping them like this if they can't find other things to do with them.

You're making a pretty good point, but what is USDA APHIS?

USDA= United States Department of Agriculture
APHIS= Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

These are the people who regulate insects in the United States.

Also, if there is anywhere B. dubia could be invasive...it would be in the nice hot humid south.

I seem to remember a thread a long time ago where a member here was considering introducing emporer scorpions to southern California.

Unfortunately, there are people like that who are too stupid to do something as simple as keep a bug in a jar or who just simply don't have the stones to freeze something that they can't take care of, can't sell or give away.

And Lucanidae is right...it's idiots like these who ruin the hobby for the rest of us.

Whether they're discussing releasing non-native species or bragging about breaking import/export laws...it really makes the rest of us look irresponsible.

Here's an old favorite of mine, even though it still smells like troll.

Well i've just done a few homeworks for my ecology classes on invasive species and i'm VERY glad that Montreal is not prone to invasive tropical invasions... I remember that two years ago they found a burmese python in a forest, about 100kms away from here. The poor thing would have died in winter, i dont know what happened to it though...

were lucky nothing can survive here but I've yet to know if there are any laws for us. I get rid of my old animals through a good hearty meal. Throwing stuff out is a tad moronic..

Something tells me they have laws for snakes there......probably just as strict as the U.S. laws against insects.

Can snakes even overwinter in Ireland?

EDIT: Of course you eat them! Waste not want not!
