One of my buddies found this spider while at work, it was found last summer around minneapolis, Minnesota. I am curious as to what kind of spider this is. Does anyone know? Also, is it native to MN? It was roughly 2 to 3 inches long with leg span. Thanks

In Indiana we just call them common field spiders. Really beautiful and I've actually seen one that was well over the 4 inch mark. She was quite the oddity and scared the bageesus out of me.

argiope ;)

maybe aurantia. they are pretty common and look similar to the one you have. and yes, they can grow very large! quite impressive!

range info: (from animaldiversityweb) "These spiders are found from southern Canada south through the lower 48 United States, Mexico, and Central America as far south as Costa Rica."
