I have an outside friend who took up residence earlier this summer. I am not sure what kind of spider it is, a photo is attached. Also, I would like to catch and "domesticate" him as a pet, What is the general thought on this idea? Thank you to the group for taking the time to check out my post!

Found very similar images on line... It appears to be a wolf spider.

Thank you for the information. I knew this would be a great place to ask.

Looks like Agelenopsis potteri, I wouldn't be surprised if that is what it is, or at least a very closely related species.

Why do you want it as a pet?

if you do take it in, it could die very soon just because it was its time. Or because you took it in. You can feed it wild caught at this point, thats what it was eating.

you could always provide crickets, less chances of accelerating its death.

I agree, set it free, it will be a beneficial pest controller about your homestead.
