i just got a heteroscodra maculata, and put her in a medium kk on it's side with sticks with fake leaves on them(there are alot of leaves that could work as cover)with moss on the bottom for humdity.she just made a burrow into the moss and now it looks like the cage is vacant!any ideas on making a cage where she can "hide" and i can still see her to some extent?i would also like to have a setup where she actually is arboreal and not burrowing.any ideas?

LOL. Good luck with that one! I have probably seen my h.mac 3 times in the last 6 months - and only because I got up in the middle of the night with a flashlight. I know he is alive because once in a rare while he will kick his molt out, and the roaches disappear and there is webbing......but for actually SEEING him. Nah. He is the invisible spider. :)

Try covering the tube with an opaque tube and only lifting the cover when you really want to see them... too often and like Ms.X said, they'll web it over.

Yeah they are just messy spiders. Plus when they are small they blend in with the substrate so well. I'm not sure theres anything artificial you could do to stop the secretive behavior.

How big is your H. mac? They have burrowing tendencies when they are slings (from what I can understand. Mine certainly does). I can't really think of a way to help though, as I'm in the same boat. I may catch it out a few times, but other than that, all I see are discarded molts and crickets that just vanish.
Good Luck!
