I moved into a new apartment, and I am finding these critters everywhere. Does anyone have an idea what kind of spider this. They are very small and I find them running all over the place, walls, bed, etc. Thx for the help.
That is a mature male Oecobius navus, also known as a "Wall Spider" or "Baseboard Spider". These are VERY common indoors, and are, of course completely harmless. One of the things they eat are dust mites, though they also have a fondness for ants. We have a lot of these in one of the school buildings where I work, and they are often found with Fire Ants in their webs. Anything that eats Fire Ants in my opinion is a GOOD thing! I can put up with their rather messy little webs much easier than I can put up with agonizing stings and painful bites from Solenopsis invicta, not to mention the risk Fire Ants pose to my animals I keep, like my tarantulas.
