Very impressive! I love the giant chelicera. That must be the dreaded pseudophoneutria mattelensis! Be very careful, as they have been known to drop unexpectedly from doorjambs and windows, and are extremely difficult to kill even with bug spray and stomping ;) .

the red chelicerae definitely place it in pseudophoneutria... but don't you think the setae on the pedipalp make it a plasticus, not a mattelensis?

You are right, Cacoseraph. How dumb of me! Mattelidae is the family, and plasticus the species. Thank you for pointing that out!

Lol, good one!

Lol, those are some impressive credentials! I had no idea of your expertise in Artificialiinae arthropoda! You really should drop National Geographic a line... :D

Wow...first a giant squid, now this?

I don't think I can take it...too many discoveries in one week.

What's next? Bigfoot on Fox news?

Bigfoot's a regular by now on fox...

It's only news if it's on Livescience.com...

For bigfoot anyhoo...

Although interesting things do pop up on cryptozoology.com... (where I am known as DarthDoughnut)

Thanks for the ID guys!

By the way, if you're interested in seeing one of these beasts, they've been sighted wandering around in Big Lots. :)

I might just have to add one to my collection.

last week I added a new one, it's related to a redknee I believe, although it can be streched from about 6inches to 1 1/2 feet. you might be able to find one at your local dollar tree.
