I found this guy out in my yard and I want to bring him into our collection. I know most eat leaves and flower petals, things like that. Others though are omnivorous or even carnivorous. So, I need to know what he is before I try to feed him. I think Microcentrum species but I have absolutely no idea but for a quick search on the series of tubes. Thanks

Not sure yet...

Sorry, I'm not sure yet, but I've got lots of new books to look it up in...Katydids just happen to be my latest obsession. Anyway, it is really cool looking!
I'll post back when I find something out...

Microcentrum sp. is a safe bet. That one should eat leaves.

OK - these are supposed hard to find since, they're always up high

It looks like a Greater Anglewing to me (Microcentrum rhombifolium).
Typically 2-2 1/2". Usually perches on the tops of tall bushes & trees.
Like other Katydids, it eats the foliage of trees & shrubs.

Not all katydids are folivores (not sure if you were implying this). Many are scavengers and predacious. In this case, it is a folivore, but there are a number in North America that aren't.
