ID Please, waterbug

I collected this waterbug while dip netting a creek in SE Riley county Kansas this afternoon. although he doesnt look as ferocious as a predacious diving beetle, Im curious of what species it is and what it does eat.

This is a water scavenger beetle, in the family Hydrophilidae, genus Tropisternus. Cool find.

yeah very cool beetles,i like the way they swim w/all legs moving at once,ive kept them before,i fed them romain lettuce,they loved it:)

ok, cool- it is in a tank with some small fish, but there is also some vegetation. I will add some romaine as well. Thank you.
