I have never in my life needed help identifying an arthropod...but my friend showed me this and I'm stumped.

(it's in the center here)

They purchased some moss and other plants online, and this peculiar little larvae came with it, so they have no idea where it could have originated. He says it has a hole in the front that "little tentacles poke out of and drag it." It's basically a tiny bag with something inside, and you can see two jointed antennae in the second pic.

At first I was thinking about Psychidae moths... but these antennae... weird.

With better pictures, especially with the larva taken outside its hideout, we could say something more.

Some type of fly larvae? Not like a Musca sp., but like mayflies and such... ? ? ? ?

It's terrestrial, I think all caddis fly larvae are aquatic aren't they?

It's sealed itself into its cocoon, so we'll find out eventually.

It reminds me of a bagworm (sci-name anyone?), except smaller. For those not in the know, it's a small caterpillar that lives in a cocoon like that and drags it around like a snailshell. They eat all my evergreen bushes... Grrrr!
