You can't rely on the number of legs to ID dogspiders. Always start with eye placement.

You can't rely on the number of legs to ID dogspiders. Always start with eye placement.

Eye placement is good, but there can be birth defects that can screw with that. Plus, the eye placement and coloration may be slightly different between subspecies.

I personally look at the vertically aligned chelicera for the proper ID.
