ID Latrodectus

Do you know how identify Latrodectus mactans to other Latrodectus species?
This Latrodectus seems to be mactans, but its hourglass seems wider.
There are means for id L.mactans without looking at the red marks ?:wall:

Where are those from?

Latrodectus sp. can be hard to ID other than by locality.

West Indies? ...most likely L. mactans. The hr glass is wide... wider than any of the mactans I have, but that shape and width screams mactans. The sub-adult (last pic) is retaining its white strips late ...looks like variolus... but would still guess mactans for that one also.
Mactans should be very common/abundant in your neck of the woods. Is this one unusual (hr glass width ..etc) ?? or are you finding others like it?

Do you find geometricus? How about Steatoda... what species do you find?

West indies effectively,

this Latrodectus is rather rare here, I find this sort only on a small part of the island. All the specimens which I observed had the hourglass of this shape.
It seems to me to have photographed a male in past, I am going to try to find his photo.
