Hi Lelle,
I dont have the best pics in the world in my book but I believe it is Metaphidippus galathea
No guarantees on that but that is what it appears to be according to my book

Hold on, it also looks alot like M protervus too.
It would sure be nice to have a good Field Guide dedicated to just spiders with good pics for ID purposes

It is a male and belongs to the genus Evarcha. It it very similar to the Palaearctic E. falcata and has to be a closely related sp.

It must then be Evarcha hoyi - the only species in the genus found here according to the most comprehensive list of manitoba spiders I have access to. :)


One of the cutest bugs I have ever seen!

According to Platnick, the only two Evarcha spp. i n Canada is E. hoyi and E. proszynskii. I don't know what they look like, but both have at times been misidentified as E. falcata.

E. proszynskii has been described as a species of its own as late as in 1998, so if you don't have a very new book, it's no wonder it's missing. The species has previously been identified as both E. falcata and E. hoyi. So they could have the same habitus.

This could be, my list is dated from July 1997!
