Hi, I got this spider about 3 days ago, the guy told me it was some sort of trapdoor spider from here (Mexico)...

These are the best shots I got of it, its quite fast and measures about 1inch, maybe a bit less.

The guy mentioned that since little substrate was provided, it had made a massive web instead of a trapdoor.

Any help ID-ing would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

There's not a lot of details we can make up.

A full ventral and dorsal shot would be useful.

It's quite possibly one of the american funnelwebs, they closely resemble trapdoors and make that sort of web. I'm not sure that a trapdoor would, substrate or not.

Eye arrangements are usually helpful, so try to get some pics of the eyes as well.

I don't believe it's a trapdoor. ( it didn't build a trap-door, for one thing ;) ) My guess would be a Barychelidae of some sort. Whatever it is, you sure have one cool spider!

Tcrazy, I looked up pictures of a Bothriocyrtum californicum as you suggested and IMO they do not resemble each other, this one seems more hairy plus its got that golden sheen to it... but I dont know...

Venom: I looked up Barychelidae as you suggested... and found this page http://www.usq.edu.au/spider/info/families.htm
Although the description does sort of fit, it says that Barychelidae have short spinneretes, which doesnt seem to be the case here... Im no expert though, so tell me what you think...

Hi,

its defently not a Barychelidae. Most Barychelidae make Trapdoors like other Trapdoorspiders (Ctenizidae, Idiopidae, ect.), furthermore they possess very short spinnerets.

The spider thats shown on the picture occurs to the Dipluridae or Hexathlidae. Both are known as "Funnelwebspiders". My guess would be Dipluridae.

Addtion: You can check by yourself when you determine the next moult.

Hexathelidae: possess six spinnerets (in part), possess numerous cuspules on labium

Dipluridae: possess always four spiderets, possess very few cuspules on labium or even they are absent
