I was collecting some cushion moss and saw this orange guy capturing food. Looks like it could be a spider because the legs bunched together unlike and ant. Can anyone ID?

Oh it might be because it needs some time to fully post because I uploaded it 2 seconds ago.

Ok. Will wait and see. We have a species of orange/golden/amber ants here so i am curious to see what it is.

I have seen orange ants and to me this does not look like one. The ants I've seen have legs that are thin and black. The legs on this critter are thicker and more bunched together. It carried the food down under brush into a crevice in the ground. Ants are usually all over the place continually.

it is a spider indeed, but it's considered an ant mimic. it's in the genus Castianeira, maybe C. amoena

beautiful spider, and so quick! nice find

If you are using Firefox go grab the MediaPlayer plugin, enable it then click the video. Grab a sammich if on a slow connect while FF digests it then enjoy. A common shortcoming with FF.

Woooah! I almost caught it but I don't know how rare they are and I wouldn't want to have them disappear from the area here. I'm going back to see if I can find more, if I find them periodically I might get one to keep. Do you ever see them online for sale?
