You really shouldn't be buying herps from a big chain petstore anyway - if they aren't dead in the store, there's good odds they'd die in your house. ;)

(Someone's going to pop up and blah blah their local petco takes wonderful care of everything and nothing ever dies blah, lucky them, they beat the odds. It's not worth the risk, IMO. So many of them ARE terrible.)

not only are the stores generally terrible, but the "breeders" they buy from usually suck as well.

well in petsmart's defense the frog looked to be well cared for. the enclosure was setup very well...the frog, which was about the size of a quarter was just dead for whatever reason. i'm sure we've all bought pets that died, for whatever reason, even soonafter even under the best care.

i can't speak for other petstores, but this one actually seems pretty decent from my experience. i've never bought an exotic pet there but the ones they have seem to be well cared for.

The Petco by my house now has a lot of frogs and they have proper set ups for them now which is a relief. Petco actually takes better care of their frogs than a herp store in my area. Depends on the store though. Another Petco a few miles away was keeping their pacmans on dry substrate and the poor little guys were all dried up :(

There's a petsmart by my place that takes great care of their herps. Right now they have 2 small pyxies(giant sp.) and a pacman (cranwelli).

i agree with mushroom spore, big name stores like pets mart, either have dead animals or dieing animals.
