I thought I was lucky, but...

It seems I can count my losses now..

My N. coloratovillosus escaped yesterday and I was really bummed about that. I had to go out to a function so didn't have much time to look...couldn't find it, but figured I'd resume the search once I got home.

Then when I get home, the first thing I see is my T. right out in the open! :) I was so relieved.

It ate a cricket last night also.

Then this morning, I noticed its abdomen looked weird. It looked shrivelled up or squished. I didn't notice this last night, but maybe there were injuries at that time that just progressed overnight?

Anyways, it's in an icu, just in case it's dehydrated, but I don't think that's the case. Considering it escaped, it probably had a fall and suffered internal inuries.

I think it's pretty much gone now. This is my first T. death. :(

I'm so sorry, I hope it pulls through. What a bummer.

Its nerves were still twitching so I thought I'd give it a chance, but that happens during the death process. Now it's just completely stopped, curled and gone. RIP Cleo.

Sorry for your loss. I've had two escaped slings and had to come to the conclusion that they were both dead. It's been more than a month. Really sucks. :(

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you think maybe it came across pesticides? I think some of them dry bugs out.

I didn't have high hopes for finding mine either, but then I came home and it was right out in the open and was one of the first things I saw. I was so relieved, but then this. It's weird how I never thought I'd be feeling much sadness from losing a T., especially since this was a freebie, but you do get attached.

There are no pesticides around my place. I've never sprayed since I've lived here and don't have any problems with bugs. But...you never know what happened while it was out. I'm going to have to go with the fall/injury theory because its abdomen was messed up. Even its spinnerets seemed to be crushed. :(

My lesson learned was to make sure the little lid on the top of a KK is completed 'snapped' shut because it's enough leeway for a small T to escape.

I had a king baboon escape from a KK. They sometimes look closed when they really aren't, but your right it's a lesson learned. I haven't had one escape from a KK since, but I did have an OBT sling slip through vent hole on a vile, so that was another lesson learned.

You still get attached to freebies. Still living things.

I was sad losing just some true spiders I got free.
