I saw a coyote today while riding down a bicycle trail, I t was really neat seeing one. I had stopped in the middle of the trail and felt like something was watching me and I looked down the trail a short distance and there it was watching me. I first I thought it was a wolve, but i see wolves don't live around here.

I didn't have time to take a picture of it, but it looked like this

Wow do you see them often? I bet you were surprised seeing the coyote staring at you. :)

Around here they are getting more common..Riding the bike in a 14000 acre preserve and seeing one is no big deal...Seeing one at noon in my subdivision SITTING in the park 50 feet away, well that was freaky. Cars stopped and took cell phone shots....

yeah that would be freaky to see one like that in your neighborhood, I'm surprised it would come to a busier area like that.

I almost ran over one a couple months ago! Driving through the forest preserves, I slowed down because I thought I saw a dog in the road. It wasn't a dog, but rather a coyote. (No, I didn't hit it). I've seen a couple of red foxes lately as well.

They are quite common here. I see one about every week or so. They are still really cool critters though! I really get excited about the bobcats though. :D

They're really common here as well. I hear them howling almost every night. It's not uncommon to find them in our yards or on the streets in our neighborhood. My cat chased one out of our yard once, it was pretty funny. There are not as many as there were say, ten or fifteen years ago as the area is being heavily developed, but they are still around preying on our pets!

Your eastern coyotes are much nicer looking than ours in AZ. The ones out here are ratty looking with fur falling off and super dirty. My son had on chase him while riding his lawn mower across a desert area. Pretty funny.
I believe you can still get $50.00 a pelt here.

Aw, I think AZ coyotes are cute. The hubby and I are fixin' to move to AZ in a few years. We've got some property there, and while camping out on it last year we had out car surrounded by a couple of coyotes. It was neat watching them snuffle around and try and figure out if we'd left anything edible out for them (we hadn't).

But my all time favorite run-in with wildlife came while living in Arkansas. I was working in a real estate office, a house on stilts really, with a wraparound back deck that overlooked a river running nearly directly underneath us. There were lots of trees all over and it was very remote. My job involved sitting at a desk and writing on papers for eight or more hours a day, which was what I was doing. At some point, I realized something was blocking the sunlight. I look up and there, not three feet away, staring in at me from the opposite side of the floor-to-ceiling window, was a buzzard. Buzzards, as I discovered, are very big birds. Apparently, I needed to move more.

I also like the coyotes here in AZ. The pelt may not be that magnificent, but they have to blend in with their surroundings, which is also pretty ordinary. :) But I still like seeing them, along with the Mule Deer. The wild life out here is great - I think you're making a good move, Varden!

Awesome! C latrans is one of my favorite animals. We have quite a few on our ranch, I saw three adults hunting together not long ago.

Ah, we used to live in Castle Rock, Colorado (right on the edge of Denver), and we'd have coyotes in our yard all the time. Right before we moved, a young mountain lion came down from the Rockies and decided to stalk anyone who'd walk their dog in the morning! Luckily, no victims.

We've got the same thing going on here, except with bobcats! I have a cousin with a couple of smaller dogs, and every time she walks them, they get stalked. Pretty funny, but kind of scary at the same time. It's a pretty regular occurrence, so hopefully the bobcat doesn't suddenly get a boost of courage!

Hey, that's pretty cool.

I had an experience with a coyote recently. Driving down a busy road with tall fields on both sides, a coyote suddenly bursts out from one side, runs into the side of the car (HUGE thud), and sits in the middle of the road dazed. Within minutes, I see it on the other side of the road running off into a forest.

I also saw one at the airport once. It looked really lost/confused.

I was out with some friends the other night by a forested area when the car died. And we heard at least 15 of them howling and they were getting closer and closer until we got the car to start and we took off.
