and I thought it was an A.avic. It seems too colorful though--the legs are a bright blue or purple (I'm not really sure), could it be an A. versicolor? I bought David Bowie from a local pet shop that just had it labelled as a Pinktoe.

And no, I don't know the sex for certain--and actually, I think DB might be a spiderling. He's so small, maybe 1" or 2". I can post pictures when I get home.

Yea need pic's but my A.avicularia (Guyana Pink Toe) has tones of blue much like heated steel blue, not like a versi's bright blue. More of an undertone when light is shown on her.

I'm betting it's a standard A.avic but maybe not.. Sometimes you get lucky :D

And for the record---either type of Avic is fine with me. I can't really be disappointed if I got what I paid for, {D

Many species of tarantula change coloration drastically over their life span. Seeing as though it is only 1 to 2 inches I would say it has not picked up its adult colors yet. One of my A. avics is 3 maybe 3 1/2 inches and he is still wearing some of his baby clothes. Also A. avics are known for having slight variations in color even from members of the same species. But as previously said, a picture is definitely needed.

Pictures are never the way to 'properly' ID a tarantula, a molt would be.

However, pictures would definitely be more helpful than the written description is.:D

Pictures work just fine for tarantula identification (in most cases), if you know what to take pictures of.

Of course, pics and a molt would be the royal flush of tarantula identification. :}

i wasn't trying to attack/condescend/ be snippy/ rude/ anything other than clarifying with that comment and i am sorry if it came across that way. i was just correcting the statement as it was incorrect. If you felt taken out at the knees, then i hope they are still intact and functioning. :p

i agree pictures are way easier to get and can usually be used to identify by, but it isn't the 'proper' way. :D

There are a few tarantulas out there, or at least color phases that are being sold as "pink toes". Some more colorful than others.

:wall: Turns out the iPhone camera is even crappier than I remember. :wall:
Unfortunately, it's also the only camera I have.
I won't waste your time with these pics. ;)

I'll call it an A. avic until I get a better camera. :)

And I'm very sure it is at least some kind of Avic. Has bright pink toes, and is definently arboreal. The first thing DB did in the cage was run up the side to the highest possible point.

This morning he kind of freaked me out, he was just carrying around a severed cricket head. I fed him last night, and he's eating already--pretty good for a T in new surroundings. But yeah, carrying around a severed head....kinda creepy.

I put this on a different board, and no response

http://www.tarantulacages.com/index.html

I have an adult G. rosea, and tomorrow will be purchasing an A. avic--which is either a largish juvie or a smallish adult. Which sizes should I get for these guys? Yes, I know these are a bit pricey, and a good deal fancier than necessary BUT I'm going to display so from that standpoint they ARE what I want. And they don't have the usual wire mesh.

The medium arboreal looks to be big enough for a pinktoe, and the large terrestrial is probably what I want for my rosie. Let me know if you guys have differing opinions!

So what are ya'll's opinions?

I'll be receiving my TarantulaCages.com Large Arboreal tank today (Yippe!)

I'm also using it for my A.avic who is around 3-3.5 size so I went with the larger one so I might be able to use it in the future.

Sooo excited for it's arrival after getting my 500 B.latts today too! :D
