I would like to start catching tarantulas in Arizona for sale. I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I want to be responsible about it as well as safe. I live near Tucson Arizona about 1/4 mile from the desert. I would appreciate any help you all can give me. Thanks.

How do you plan to sell them? Most likely you don't make the money you expected.

I know a woman in Arizona who does this for a living. She sells each T and scorpion $5 to the middle man. The middle man sells them to companies for $10 and maybe to local pet stores for $15. The companies or local pet stores then sell them to consumers for $50. Luckily, she is married and her husband can pay the bills.

NO.

That is the most despicable thing. You aren't going to make money or do the hobby any favours with that nonsense.

Since you're in Arizona you'd be catching A.chalcodes, and good luck making any kind of money on them really. They're always available in the hobby and I doubt it would be very lucrative unless you were to catch them in the 100's, and then good luck pawning them all off. We're not in a desperate need for WC A. chalcodes, they're everywhere.

Leave them where they are. If you wanted to catch one for your personal collection, that would be fine - as long as you weren't hunting in a protected area. If you wanted to sell them, you might even catch a couple and try to breed them - not that you're likely to make much money at it. A. chalcodes is a very common and readily-available species. It does not sell for very much, compared to many other T species - and there are only a limited number of people who are looking for them. What you would be doing, if you were trying to catch them for sale, is depleting the native populations - and plopping all those spiders in cages where they would likely linger - unsold - for months or even years (assuming you are taking care of them properly and they don't just up and die on you).

Please do not do this.

If one should keep those animals in terrariums, tjey should be bred in captivety! I dislike the idea to take an animal from the wild to kerp in a tank! But that is just my opinion! Specially speicies with a slow growth cycle!

I wasn't sure about doing it. It seemed kinda creepy. I just enjoy watching them out in the desert. I don't even want to own one. Let them stay where they are. Thank you for all your opinions.
