Ok heres the situation, I have some one thats offering Wild caught mexican tarantulas. He says they are black and brown. I have looked at a few different sites trying to figure what sp. they are. I asked the person and he said they called it a new mexican Brown. I googled that and nothing came back. Any ideas what this T could be? i know its kinda hard to figure out with no pic but can some one just take a shot in dark?

By "New Mexican", does he mean the state of New Mexico or the country of Mexico? I may have a few ideas....

If whatever it is is actually wild caught from Mexico that fellow could be facing some charges if the authorities found out. Most or all species are protected there I believe.

Keep in mind, many wild caught Ts will be male. They roam around looking for mates.

Now, if you don't mind that it is a male... I guess that does not matter.

Also, how much is he asking?

A price to good to pass up. That is what he said also that most will be males. I offered him a few extra pennies to locate variety and size and sex.

sadly enough, i got the tarantula crack bug kinda bad right now. i will ask him to snap some pic when he gets them so i have a idea of what i am getting. then i can post the pics i cn have a definitive answer on the species.

Mexico has a bunch of Aphonopelma's.But thay get over looked because of
the more colorful Brachypelma's.I would bet it's a Aphonopelma spec. of 1
type or another.

most of the tarantulas native to the US are black and brown. most of the species from new mexico are very poorly known. people have not studied new mexico's natives as much as california, arizona and texas species. there is a good chance your spider does not have a name. we would all be interested to see pictures though :)

I know this in an old post, but it baffles me that people are so confused about what types of tarantulas are from NM, I can confirm that around chaparral NM and El Paso, TX you will find Aphonopelma sp. and its funny that no one know how to find them .... lol I grew up there as a kid ,and if I get to go back I will be bring some Wild females home.

If you want some pointers on catching your wild caught Aphonopelma sp, Look for webs on the ground covering holes. the hold will be completely cover with web, normally in sandy areas , I have never found any in rocky areas (not to say they are not there) . Bring a few gallons of water with you... Pour the water in the hole until you see the tarantula pop out... this will drown them out of the hole. as soon as the pop up have a thin stick or something to slip behind the T and his hole, block The Ts way back in. then put in a Jar lol.. I would catch more T's than I could ever want as a kid doing this. this is why u see T's out more right after a rain. if its not raining and you see one walking around... 99.8% of the time it will be a MALE! and normaly a MM male, looking for a female.
