im not sure how large a 58qt tank is, but carrying 2 30 qt bags of top soil wasnt any fun
im about to get an A.avic myself and im thinking of either 1) getting a tall tank, or 2) getting a reg 10 gallon tank and placing it on its side so it is tall
if you go with option 2, youll have to get a top that hinges in the middle or one that has a trap door you can use to get into the enclosure. fill the bottom with a few inches of substrate, add a plant if you like. if you use a screne top youll have to ceran wrap the bottom tightly so the dirt doesnt escape. or you can get plexi-glass and attach it to lid and then drill the appropriate holes. also, you may want to use silicone to glue on a piece of cork bark to the back of the tank, and also put in something they may feel comfortable enough in so they may build a web.

if you opted for option 1, remember to try and discourage it from building a web on the lid. everytime you go to feed, water or remove remains youll destroy her web.

are you going to be keeping it in a 5 gallon even when it matures?

Your point is? A 5 gallon is excessive for a full grown adult, it's past the point of gigantic for a sling if that's what he's going to be starting with.

I have pinktoes, which are well over half grown, still in mini kritterkeepers, and they aren't even close to cramped.

Too much is subjective.

An A. avicularia (and most of the Avicularia complex for that matter) doesn't get much above 4-5 inches in leg span. You need something about 8-10 inches high and about 6 inches square at the base for an arboreal T that size. That's a 2.5 gallon or a medium kritter keeper on end.

This does not mean you can't use bigger sized containers, but that it's unnecessary do so, and if too large can cut down on the ability of the T to easily find food.

From my p.o.v., I've got over 50 Ts, about half growing slings, the other half juveniles and adults. I'm not about to devote more space to any particular T than it needs. Things are cramped enough as is on the shelves.

The container the Don is showing is plenty large enough.

My Avic's, adults and sub-adults are in a 10 gallon tank split in 4. Each section is 12"h x 5"w x10"d. This is plenty large enough considering they spend most of their time in their web or hanging out on the glass.

My slings and juveniles are in vials or small kritter keepers.

By the way, did you ever mention how large you Avic was?

Critter Keepers are the answers! I use them for most of my Ts. They come in a variety of sizes and could be stood on end for your arboreal spiders, so I think that you should definatly get onme

anyways peace

and im goin to get the rest of my brood fried.

Ya im not sure what they call those leaves but they are attached to the log thats in there. I have bought other fake hanging plants that look exactly like marijuana leaves but they are called something else. I will see if I still have the package and give you the name.

peace
