Fill the chosen enclosure with moist substrate about 3/4 full. In the centre start a hole (optional - place a coconut hide over the hole). Place a tea towel over the lid or place in dark quiet place.

The spider will eventually settle into a deep burrow at the bottom.

Perhaps consider a substrate more suitable for burrowing, potting soil, plantation soil, or a combination of the two.

making a starter burrow near the glass may be a good idea if you want to potentially be able to see into your Ts lair :) Other than that the advice above is all good

Don't have any readily available pics of my enclosure, but just make sure you give your cobalt a lot of room to burrow. These guys will go about as deep as you let them, I'd plan on 10 inches of substrate minimum, and like others have said you may want to make a burrow in advance if you want to see them. Mine always webbed over the sides anyway, so its hard to see. They don't come to the surface much, so you can get away with just about whatever you want up top. :)

If you start the burrow near the glass, and cover that side of the glass in dark paper the T won't feel the need to completely cover the sides of the burrow in webbing. That way you can move the paper and peek in.

8 months!! are you certain? my H. lividum is 4" as well and she is 2 years old....if yours is that big already, could it be a male? I have pics in the enclosure sticky in the photo boards of her home...I started the hole in the corner opposite where I flood her dish for humidity and It is very nice to be able to peek in and see whats up with her...definitely put at least 6" of substrate...they are fossoril(sp) an obligate burrower....she NEEDS a deep hole to be 'happy'...congrats, they are a great spider....she will come out but you have to sneak up on her and have a quiet and dim or dark area..I use a red bulb to watch.

What I did was use set up a peice of rounded cork bark angled in my kritter keeper with the burrow started and she got the idea. and lives in there.

Awesome spider ... when I see her lol.

Just make sure you take a picture or two so you can see her whenever you want =P

I personally think more than this is better..12"+ if you can. Mine has around 16" of sub, and an angled burrow that runs around 20" and would go further if she hadn't hit the bottom of the tank.

no doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow..I knew mine was somewhat minimal but again , wow!! when she molts and grows a bit I may rehouse so she can have some superior burowing opportunity!! might have to custom build a plex enclosure !...your lividum has done some serious work!! mine hasn't even expanded beyond an inch past what I made in original tank.
