Hi hi!

I'm very new to owning a T and I can't tell if my A. Avicularia is stuck, I don't wanna open their tank in fear of scaring them. I think they are a juvenile though not sure about the exact age, she's only molted once since I've had her and this is the first molt I'm actually watching. She started sometime in the very early morning and I noticed her at around 9:20 am it's now 12:33 ish and some progress has been made but it's very little. Their molting at a weird angle and the entrance to her weird tunnel is blocked by some web since they decided to make a small little tunnel/burrow thing near the bottom of her tank. I have seen her legs twitch at times if that helps anything.

I'm probably overreacting because I've never witnessed an actual molt but I'm still very worried, I've tried to look at different threads talking about what it would look like if they are stuck but I can't see much because of the web obscuring her

(Sorry the picture sucks I don't wanna open her screen incase I scare her :( )

Sorry but that was the most confusing 1st paragraph I've ever read. Are we talking about more than one Tarantula here?

Anyway, just don't disturb it, it's sealed off, so basically telling you to leave it alone. Not much you can do but wait.

What has happened since? Any change? The first hours, its best to wait. It can take more then 6 hours.

if you can remove the cover without making noise and breathing, then sure open it, it it gives you a better view. But dont intervene unless you actualy SEE that it is stuck.

Read this so you have more peace of mind at your next molt:

She somehow shifted into her tunnel more and I manged to get the tank open but their now on their back in the tunnel so I assume still molting from what me and my mother can see as she hasn't flipped over at all and there isn't her molt, we are leaving the screen open so we can see better and have q-tips ready just in case to help as we can't find our paint brushes. We're monitoring them and before we go to bed we'll shut the tank and pray that she's okay in the morning :,)👍

What makes you think they are molting?

I'm pretty sure in the pictures I saw double of her front legs and they've been at the weird angle all day until tonight, tbh I've been thinking the same thing like maybe she isn't molting but I could've sworn I saw double of her front legs when she was on her back/side this morning. If she did finish molting I can't find her molt anywhere.

She's also been showing signs of pre molt by not eating and closing off her burrow like she did before.

I just checked as I saw a cricket and it looks like she's not.. I could have sworn she was as there looked to be double of her. I am so sorry 😭

Are you sure she's not a mature male? It's definitely on its back in the picture and would explain why it appears it's molting but changing its mind...

I have no clue I've just been calling her a she but last molt their abdomen was destroyed so I couldn't see if there was a reproductive flap or not

I dont think its molting, yet. Its just in pre molt maybe.

youll know when its molting for sure.

and just let it be. Offer prekilled for now if unsure. And make sure you put little delicate water drops here and there for it to hydrate. Close to its hamac.

Tarantulas can be upside down in a web and not be molting. Its normal for them. Like in a tree. Upside down dont mean molt for sure for arboreal.

From the start i hesitated telling you its not molting. But bow we are here. Just read the link i provided so you are ready for the molt.

its going to go well. Trust me. If you have been giving A husbandry, then if it goes wrong, its nothing you could have controlled. And it happens. To the most profesional breeders.

edit: i am starting to realize i have a really good spidey sense. Its the 7th sense experience.

Thank you lol, I'll definitely do that and I bet you when I wake up in the morning they will be back to normal. But I'll definitely offer some pre kill and some water droplets if I can find a good angle to drop the droplets :D

just a few delicately placed dropped near the tarantula will do enough. Prekill dont need to be close; if it were in premolt it wouldnt need food. Water is priority.

if you place drops “on top” of hamac, thats fine. Spider will sense it and water can travel. Just a few. And watch how fast it evaporates. You dont want to over humidify everything. I trust you. You know how to pipette one big drop. I believe it.
